My Story

An inspiring journey from pre-CNM student to a dedicated doula, educator, advocate, and guide.

Imagine a beautiful spring day in 2016…

I WAS SUPPORTING A FAMILY IN WELCOMING THEIR NEWEST ADDITION. SUPPORT I’D OFFERED PROFESSIONALLY FOR NEARLY A YEAR NOW. BUT THIS TIME, IT WAS DIFFERENT.

I vividly recall the moment when I stood in that hospital room, feeling the weight of my dream to become a Certified Nurse Midwife slowly slip from my grasp. For so long, I believed the path to bridging the chasm between the ideal support expecting families needed within the environment of a hospital birth lay in becoming a midwife. However, as I stood there, observing the attending midwife’s vital but tightly defined role within the delivery room, a profound realization began to take root in me.

Expecting parents needed someone outside the clinical system to bridge the gap…

I CAME TO UNDERSTAND THAT HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS (YOUR CHOSEN MIDWIFE OR OB) OCCUPY A HIGHLY SPECIALIZED AND FOCUSED ROLE IN AND OUTSIDE OF THE DELIVERY ROOM – ESPECIALLY SO IN COMPLEX SITUATIONS.

This focused role often leaves little room for attending to the emotional and educational needs of the family through this pivotal life milestone. Families often contend with this gap in care by entering their birth experience armed with a Pinterest-worthy birth plan, wielding it like a shield against the unforeseen. Yet, all too often, they find themselves blindsided by policies, interventions, birth attendants, and even the unpredictable twists of birth itself.

Insert a resource where education meets support…

METICULOUSLY CRAFTED AND FIERCELY PROTECTED, BIRTH PLANS CANNOT BE THE ONLY TOOL USED TO CURATE A SAFE AND VALUED BIRTH AND POSTPARTUM EXPERIENCE.

With a background in working alongside medical and holistic practitioners, I respect the art of both traditional and modern medicine. But I also understand the limitations of care in the current condition of the United States Healthcare system. At that moment, in that hospital room, I acknowledged that as a midwife, I could not provide the level of care I knew in my heart families needed most or change the state of our current medical system. But as a doula, I could.

  • I could support expecting families in navigating through the complex medical system.
  • I could help families understand their choices.
  • I could equip families to lead their care and advocate for their needs
  • I could guide families in curating a beautiful experience -beyond check marks on a birth plan- that they would cherish for a lifetime.

So, rather than continuing down the path of becoming a clinical provider, I made the life-altering decision to support families with care they desperately needed and our community lacked.

CARE INFUSED WITH EDUCATION, UNDERSTANDING, AND PERSONALIZED SUPPORT.
Education seals:

Bridging Parenthood was born…

AN INTERSECTION WHERE TRADITIONAL AND MODERN MEDICINE ARE RESPECTED AND YOUR WANTS AND NEEDS AS PARENTS ARE VALUED.

While my career began in 2015 as a pre-CNM student turned doula, educator, advocate, and guide to families navigating through complex birth experiences – I knew my efforts to bridging the gap in expecting parent support couldn’t end in the delivery room. Beyond pregnancy and birth support, I understood the incredible importance of postpartum support and education. To accommodate this growing need in the Phoenix Valley and establish a steady online presence in helping families transition into parenthood with confidence, Bridging Parenthood emerged in 2023. Rooted in helping families navigate the unique challenges and emotions that accompany the early stages of parenthood, I offer virtual and in-person pregnancy, birth, baby care & postpartum prep classes and hands-on coaching.

In every aspect of care, my aim has been to be the bridge that connects families to the resources and personalized support they deserve during their transition from pregnancy into postpartum.

That’s what Bridging Parenthood is:

A bridge in the gap of advocacy between what you value and the reality you may face in your birth and postpartum experience.

A bridge to the informational gaps between birthing strategies and baby care techniques.

A bridge for the emotional support gap between who you were and who parenting will require you to become.
